Houston Healthcare Pledges $25,000 to Anti-Tobacco, Anti-Vaping Youth Education Over Five-Year Period

Houston Healthcare (HHC) has partnered with Georgia Healthy Family Alliance (GHFA), the philanthropic arm of Georgia Academy of Family Physicians (GAFP), in support of the Middle Georgia Tar Wars Strike Force, an anti-tobacco, anti-vaping youth education and prevention program. Houston Healthcare pledged a five-year, $25,000 gift to GHFA with President and CEO Charles Briscoe presenting a check to GHFA officials on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

“Houston Healthcare is happy to partner with the Georgia Healthy Family Alliance in their efforts to prevent vaping among youth, which is a public health crisis nationwide,” says Briscoe. “This partnership aligns with Houston Healthcare’s mission to improve the healthcare of the communities we serve while promoting health and wellness.”

The Middle Georgia Tar Wars Strike Force seeks to prevent 4th and 5th graders in 15 Middle Georgia counties from ever using tobacco and nicotine products by providing the Tar Wars anti-tobacco, anti-vaping education and prevention program. Donations for the program allow the Georgia Healthy Family Alliance and Georgia Academy of Family Physicians to provide all lesson plans and materials needed at no cost to the schools, presenters or volunteers.

“The implementation of Tar Wars throughout Middle Georgia is possible through the invaluable support of community partners like Houston Healthcare,” said Dr. Monique Davis-Smith, Director, Department of Family Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine & Middle Georgia Tar Wars Strike Force Co-Chair.
