Houston Healthcare’s Pavilion Diagnostic Center Mammography Department Receives National Recognition

Members of Houston Healthcare’s Breast Care Team attended the National Consortium of Breast Centers 32nd Annual Interdisciplinary Breast Center Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 24-28, 2023, where Houston Healthcare’s Pavilion Diagnostic Center Mammography Department competed in the NCBC Abstract Program. Hundreds of organizations nationwide submit abstracts that fall into three categories: Category 1: Breast Center Operations, Administration and Programs; Category 2: Patient Care and Support; and Category 3: Breast Center Diagnosis and Management. The entries are then peer-reviewed by a committee to be selected for presentation at the Conference.
The Pavilion Diagnostic Center Mammography Department was selected as the Category 1 Abstract Award Winner for their abstract Journey to a Breast Center of Excellence: Creating a High-Risk Program in a Rural Community Imaging Center. This abstract detailed the processes used to decrease the turnaround time of radiographically positive screening mammograms to breast cancer diagnosis from upwards of 30 days to a period of seven to eleven days. On Saturday March 25, the team participated in the Poster Reception where the details and data of the abstract were displayed on an eight-foot poster and an oral presentation was given to conference attendees by Kendra Brown, BSRT(R), Pavilion Diagnostic Center Manager.

The Pavilion Diagnostic Center, along with Houston Healthcare – Perry, has also been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation signifies that these Houston Healthcare facilities provide essential breast imaging services to our community at the highest standards of the radiology profession.
