Houston Healthcare - Perry has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in breast ultrasound as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®). Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and better treat medical conditions. Ultrasound imaging of the breast produces a picture of the internal structures of the breast.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific requirements based on ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported back to the facility and provide the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
"It’s important that our community knows we're dedicated to providing exceptional care by achieving top of the line accreditations,” says Autumn Litteral, RT(S), RVT, an ultrasound technologist at Houston Healthcare – Perry.
It was Litteral who led the charge within her department to apply for this accreditation. “This is a ‘first’ for Houston Healthcare - Perry, and I guess I wanted to show that even though we're a small hospital, we're mighty,” says Litteral. “Plus, I watched my mom and aunt go through breast cancer, and I know how important the ultrasound/mammogram combination is for prevention and diagnosis.”
“We are so proud to achieve this ACR Breast Ultrasound Accreditation which reflects our commitment to the highest standards in imaging quality and patient care,” says Lindsay Arrington, BSHA, RT(R), radiology manager, Houston Healthcare - Perry. “From ensuring accurate diagnoses to early detection of breast cancer, we strive to deliver leading-edge imaging services in a compassionate, patient-centered environment.”
Houston Healthcare – Perry has three imaging modalities that are breast accredited through the American College of Radiology. They include MRI, Mammography, and now Ultrasound.
