Perry, GA – March 10, 2025: Houston Healthcare – Perry is proud to announce a significant milestone in patient safety: the entire year of 2024 was completed with zero reported hospital-associated infections (HAIs).
The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), a program under the CDC, is the nation's most widely used healthcare-associated infection (HAI) tracking system. NHSN provides hospitals with data needed to identify problem areas, measure progress of prevention efforts, and ultimately eliminate healthcare-associated infections.
“Patient safety is our top priority, and this milestone is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire staff,” said Todd Edenfield, vice president and administrator of Houston Healthcare – Perry. “Achieving a full year without a single hospital-associated infection reflects the effectiveness of our infection control protocols and our team's commitment to excellence.”
Throughout the year, Houston Healthcare – Perry implemented rigorous infection prevention measures. Staff members participated in extensive infection control training, ensuring best practices were followed in every aspect of patient care. Regular hand hygiene monitoring further reinforced adherence to safety protocols, reducing the risk of infections
Additionally, our Environmental Services team played a crucial role in maintaining a sterile and safe healthcare environment. Their meticulous cleaning and disinfection procedures, conducted before and after every patient stay, were instrumental in achieving this success.
This milestone reflects Houston Healthcare – Perry’s ongoing dedication to providing a safe, high-quality healthcare experience for all patients. As we continue our mission, we remain steadfast in our commitment to upholding the best practices in infection prevention and patient care.
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are infections people acquire while receiving healthcare for another condition or soon after. Some examples of HAIs that hospitals track and report to NHSN include bloodstream infections related to central lines, urinary tract infections related to an indwelling urinary catheter, hospital onset methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bloodstream infections, and hospital onset Clostridioides difficile (C.diff) infections.
