At Houston Healthcare, our commitment to excellence goes beyond providing emergency medical services. Our EMS Director serves as the Emergency Preparedness and Management Coordinator, overseeing disaster planning and response in the interests of the safety and well-being of our community.
Emergency preparedness and management involve meticulous planning and swift
response to disasters that could overwhelm hospital resources and require
external support. A disaster can range from large-scale events like the
terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, to smaller incidents involving
infectious diseases. The definition of a disaster depends on various factors,
including the event type, timing, severity of illnesses or injuries, local
preparedness, and available resources.
Disasters can be classified as internal or external. Internal disasters are events that occur within the hospital's walls, such as active shooter situations, power outages, or radiation exposure incidents. On the other hand, external disasters happen at locations separate from the hospital, such as transportation incidents or industrial accidents. Some disasters can even be a combination of both, such as natural disasters causing mass casualties and damage to the hospital structure.
As the Emergency Preparedness and Management Coordinator, our EMS Director
takes charge of ensuring that Houston Healthcare is well-equipped to handle
any crisis effectively. We conduct thorough planning, establish protocols,
and collaborate with local authorities and agencies to enhance our preparedness.
Our goal is to maintain seamless coordination and response during critical
situations, safeguarding the well-being of our patients, staff, and community.
